Korea National Arboretum in Namyangju_ 남양주 국립수목원

 The National Arboretum, also known as the Gwangneung Arboretum, is located in the vicinity of Gwangneung and people steadily visit here to see well-preserved forests.

 It is one of the best preserved areas in Korea as it is a natural environment. Sejo has strictly instructed to protect the surrounding forests by setting this place as his tomb, and since then the forest has been preserved and the ecosystem has been well preserved for over 500 years and designated as the National Arboretum. It is currently a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

 Originally opened in 1989 as a forest bath, the necessity of preserving the forests has increased. In 1997, the forest bath was closed and a reservation system was introduced. The number of visitors is limited to 3,000 ~ 5,000 per day.

광릉수목원이라고도 불리는 이곳 국립수목원은 광릉주변에 위치하고 있으며 관광객들이 잘 보전된 산림을 감상하기 위해 꾸준히 찾고 있다.

  우리나라에서 자연환경 그대로 보존이 가장 잘 된 지역중 하나이며 이는 세조의 덕이 크다고 할 수 있겠다. 세조가 이곳을 자신의 릉 자리로 정하면서 주변 산림도 보호하라고 엄격히 지시하였으며 이후 숲이 보존되어 500여 년동안 생태계가 잘 보존되어 국립수목원으로 지정되었다. 현재 유네스코 생물권 보전지역이다. 

 

 원래 1989년 삼림욕장을 개장하였으나 숲의 보존 필요성이 대두되면서 1997년 삼림욕장을 폐쇄하였으며 사전예약제를 실시하여 1일 3천~5천명으로 방문객 수를 제한하여 운영중이다. 

 There is a large parking lot at the entrance of the arboretum, and the parking fee is 3,000 won per car. Admission is 1,000 won per person. Please refer to the following procedure for advance reservation.

 넓은 주차장이 수목원 입구에 있으며 주차료는 승용차 기준 3000원이다. 입장료는 1000원이며 사전예약을 위해서는 아래 절차를 참고하도록 한다.

 수목원 내에는 여러 테마로 구성된 식물원 및 정원이 있으며 입구에서 안내책자를 받아볼 수 있다. 안내책자를 확인하고 나만의 관람코스를 정해 다녀보도록 하자.

 As soon as you enter, it is the children's garden. The play facilities are in harmony with nature so that children can play.

들어가자마자 보이는 것이 어린이정원이다. 아이들이 놀 수 있도록 놀이시설이 자연과 어우러져 있다.

 When you leave the children's garden and walk a little to the right, you can see the Vine Botanical Garden. The steel structure was installed so that various vine plants can ride up.

 어린이 정원을 나와 오른쪽으로 조금 걷다 보면 덩굴 식물원을 만나 볼 수 있다. 각종 덩굴 식물들이 타고 올라갈 수 있도록 철골 구조물을 설치해 놓았다.

 When you move to the right side of the arboretum edge from the vine botanical garden, you would meet the aquatic botanical garden. It is a place where you can see plants growing in water like lotus.

 덩굴식물원에서 수목원 가장자리 쪽으로 우측으로 이동하면 수생식물원을 만난다. 연꽃과 같이 물에서 자라는 식물을 볼 수 있는 곳이다.

 It is a Korean national flower, Mugunghwa, blooming on the roadside.

 Trees in the arboretum are beautiful with the fallen petals.

 수목원의 나무들이 떨어진 꽃잎과 어울려 멋진 풍경을 연출한다.

 After viewing the aquatic botanical garden, walk up to the upside then you will see a greenhouse for the plants of warm region.

수생식물원을 보고 위로 올라가면 난대식물 온실이 나온다.

 There is the sound garden next to the greenhouse. It looks beautiful with charmingly decorated.

 It is a forest museum, the largest building in the arboretum. There is a bench next to it and a vending machine so it is a good place to eat simple food. For reference, the National Arboretum allow only eat simple foods such as Kimbap, and there is no sales facility inside, so you should prepare it yourself when you come.

 The inside of the forest museum have been built using the trees of Gwangneung. It will be more interesting if you refer to it and watch.

수목원 안의 가장 큰 건물인 산림 박물관이다. 옆에 벤치도 있고 자판기도 있어 간단한 음식을 먹기 좋은 장소다. 참고하자면 국립수목원은 김밥과 같은 간단한 음식들만 먹을 수 있으며 내부에 판매시설이 없기 때문에 오실 때 직접 준비해 와야 한다.

산림박물관 내부는 광릉의 나무들을 이용해 건축되었다고 하니 이를 참고하시고 관람하시면 더욱 재미있을 듯 하다.

 When you leave the forest museum and move in a counterclockwise direction, there is a fern gardens. Be careful not to miss it because it is small.

산림박물관을 나와서 반 시계방향으로 이동하면 바로 양치 식물원이 있다. 작게 조성되어 지나칠 수도 있음을 주의. 

 Continuing past the Fern Botanical Garden, there is the Tropical Plant Resources Research Center. You should be aware that only 30 people can watch on a first come, first served basis. The visitors can listen to the commentary of the facility.

 양치식물원을 지나 계속 걷다보면 열대식물자원 연구센터가 있다. 매 시각 정시에 선착순 30명만 관람이 가능한 점 유의하셔야 하겠다. 관람인원은 안내자의 해설을 들으며 관람을 할 수 있다.

 Tropical plants that cannot be seen in Korea are growing.

 한국에서 볼 수 없는 열대 식물들이 자라고 있다.

 Compared to what you see outside, the inside scale is not bigger than you think, so you can see it in about 30 minutes. It feels like I have been in the tropical jungle for a while.

밖에서 보이는 모습에 비해 내부 규모는 생각보다 크지 않아 30분 정도면 다 볼 수 있다. 잠시 열대 밀림을 다녀온 듯한 느낌이다.

 If you continue walking out of the Tropical Plants Resources Research Center, you will be able to find a forest path which is the most similar to the true nature of the National Arboretum. Personally, it seemed to be able to feel the real view of the National Arboretum from here.

 열대식물자원 연구센터를 나와 계속 걸으면 진정한 국립수목원의 자연 그대로의 모습에 가까운 숲길을 만나볼 수 있다. 개인적으로는 여기부터 진정한 국립수목원의 모습을 느낄 수 있었던 것 같았다.

 The National Arboretum, which can show view of nature itself for hundreds of years as it is without any human touch, will provide a special time of rest to them who get stress from daily life.
