12. King Munmu_Tomb of Munmu_Gyeongju(경주 문무왕릉)

Tomb of Munmu is located about 30 km east of Gyeongju City on the sea.

 

The 30th King of Shilla who achieved the great work of the unification of the Three Kingdoms. He wanted to be buried in the East Sea after he died to defend his country from Japanese raiders by becoming a patriot dragon. 경주시에서 동쪽으로 약 30Km 떨어진 곳 바다위에 문무대왕릉이 있다.

Tomb of the great king Munmu is located in Gampo coast of Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk province. It takes about 4 hours and 40 minutes by car from Seoul.

문무대왕릉은 경상북도 경주의 감포 해안가에 있으며 서울에서 승용차로 약 4시간 40분 정도 걸린다.

When you arrive, you can park in the parking lot in front of this beach (parking charge is free)

문무왕릉에 도착해서 바로 앞 주차장에 주차를 하고(주차료는 무료)

If you go down, you will see a sandy beach and big stone in front of you is the Royal Tomb of King Munmu.

아래로 내려가면 모래사장이 있고 바로 앞에 보이는 큰 돌이 대왕암, 즉 문무대왕 릉이다.

 King Munmu said that he would be a patriot dragon guarding the country from here, so I can see how many Japanese raiders invaded Silla through this route.

 It can be guessed that Japanese raiders seems come from Japan to here by the sea route and they can get into the Gyeongju easily through the land route after berthing the boat on this waterfront.

Imagine the patriotism of King Munmu during walking on the beach.

문무왕께서 이곳에서 나라를 지키는 호국룡이 되겠다고 하셨으니 얼마나 많은 왜구가 이 경로를 통해 신라를 침입했는지 알 수 있을 것 같다.

지금 보아도 바닷길로 일본에서 여기까지 온 후 해안가에 배를 정박 후 육로를 통해 어렵지 않게 경주쪽으로 들어올 수 있었음을 짐작할 수 있다.

해변을 거닐며 문무왕의 호국정신을 상상해 본다.
