1. Dangun(단군)_Chamseongdan_Manisan(강화 마니산 참성단)

Dan-gun is an indispensable man whenever talking about Korean history. He is the first person to appear in the song 100 great men who brightened Korea and  the mythical founder of the Korean people and the founder of Gojoseon. 

It is said that Cham Seong Dan was built at the top of Mt. Manisan to hold a memorial ceremony in heaven. The rituals was also held at this altar during the Goryeo and Joseon Dynasties. It is the soul mountain of Korea nation that has been making and delivering flame during the national sport festival every year. 한국의 역사를 이야기할 때 단군은 빼 놓을 수 없는 존재다. 한국을 빛낸 100명의 위인들에서 맨 처음 등장하는 인물이며 한민족의 신화적인 시조이자 고조선의 국조이다. 

 오늘 여행 장소인 마니산 정상에 위치한 참성단은 단군이 하늘에 제사를 올리기 위해 쌓았던 것이라고 전해 온다. 고려와 조선시대에도 이 단에서 하늘에 제사를 지냈다. 매년 전국체전시 성화를 채화, 봉송하고 있는 민족의 영산이다. 단군에 대한 자세한 내용은 자료실을 참고하길 바란다.(http://gbbrake.tistory.com/7?category=717030)

Manisan Mountain is located in Ganghwa Island and you can understand it is the west side of Seoul. The location of the Manisan Ticket Office, the entrance to the mountain climbing, is as follows.

마니산은 강화도에 있으며 서울을 중심으로 서쪽에 있다고 보면 된다. 등산 입구인 마니산 매표소의 위치는 아래와 같다.

The park is relatively well equipped to accommodate many tourist and the parking fee is free.

많은 사람들이 찾는 산 답게 주차장은 비교적 잘 갖추어 있고 주차비는 무료이다.  

The admission fee is 2,000 won

하지만 입장료 2,000원은 내야 한다. 

You can see the guide map of Mt. Manisan just after passing the ticket office. We chose to climb up through the Stairs Road and down through Dangun Road. As a result, the Stairs Road seems to be easier trail.

1.       The Stairs Road : 2.4Km One way, 1hr 15min

2.       The Dangun Road : 3.6Km One way, 1hr 50min

매표소를 지나면 마니산 관광안내도를 볼 수 있다. 우리는 계단로로 올라가 단군로로 내려오는 길을 선택했는데 결과적으로 계단로가 더 쉬운 길이었던 것 같다.

1. 계단로 : 편도 2.4 Km, 1시간 15분 소요

2. 단군로 : 편도 3.6 Km, 1시간 50분 소요

계단로를 따라 올라가는 길. 처음은 편안한 포장도로다. 여유롭게 산책중

Soon the pavement will disappear. There are so many steps to match the name 'Stairs Road'. Hahaha

조금 지나면 포장도로는 없어지고... 이름에 걸맞는 수많은 계단이 나타난다. ㅎㅎㅎ

Don't worry too much because even a 4-year-old kid is coming up alone.

4살 꼬맹이도 혼자 올라오는 길이니 너무 걱정하지는 말자.

Like other mountain climbing, reaching the summit provide wonderful view and the hard work that has been done is washed away. The stone structure you see over there is the Cham Seong Dan.

Let's go up and imagine the ancestors of the Korean offering memorial ceremony  to heaven for hopes of peace.

어느산과 마찬가지로 정상에 오르면 멋진 풍경과 함께 그간의 노고는 씻은듯이 사라진다. 저기 보이는 돌로된 건축물이 바로 참성단이다.

올라가서 한민족의 시조께서 평안을 기원하며 하늘에 제사지내던 모습을 상상해보자.

It is a picture of a fine view as I came down through the Dangun road. Mt. Manisan is located on Ganghwado Island, which is not very far from Seoul, and it is considered a good place to visit while traveling Seoul. Also It takes around 3 hours for climbing up & down so it is not long time.

Since Ganghwa Island itself is a place that have many important events in Korean history, it is recommended that you take time to travel the entire island.

단군로를 따라 내려오면서 좋은 풍경을 찍어 보았다. 마니산은 등산시간도 왕복 3시간정도로 길지 않고 서울에서 그리 멀지않은 강화도에 위치하고 있어 서울을 여행하면서 한번 쯤 들러볼만한 관광지라고 생각한다. 강화도 자체도 한국 역사에서 중요한 사건들을 많이 담고 있는 장소이기 때문에 시간을 내어 강화도 전체의 여행을 해 보는 것도 추천한다.
