 Insadong Street is one of the best-known tourist attractions for foreigners visiting Korea. It is one of the representative streets of Seoul where you can get to know the traditional culture of Korea and it has become a popular place not only for foreigners but also for Koreans. In the vicinity of Insa-dong, Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Village, Changdeok Palace, Changgyeong Palace, Pagoda Park, Jongmyo, Boshingak, Cheonggyecheon and Myeongdong streets are gathered, making a must-see tourist course for foreign tourists.

 인사동 거리는 한국을 관광하는 외국인들에게 가장 잘 알려진 관광명소 중 하나이다. 우리나라의 전통문화를 접할 수 있는 서울의 대표거리 중 하나로 외국인 뿐 아니라 한국인들에게도 인기있는 장소로 자리잡았다. 인사동 주변은 경복궁, 북촌마을, 창덕궁, 창경궁을 비롯하여 탑골공원, 종묘, 보신각, 청계천, 명동거리 등 볼거리들이 모여있어 외국인 관광객들의 필수 관광코스로 자리잡게 되었다. 

 Insa-dong road is located in Jongno-gu, Seoul and it is recommended to use public transportation because parking is difficult.

 인사동 길은 서울특별시 종로구에 있으며 주차가 어렵기 때문에 대중교통 이용을 추천한다.

 On weekends, it is designated as a car-free street for tourists to enjoy. People are crowded and it is full of energy on a wide road.

 주말에는 관광객들이 편하게 다닐 수 있도록 차 없는 거리로 지정되어 있다. 넓은 도로에 사람들이 북적이면서 활기찬 모습을 하고 있다.

 As the Japanese colonial period, Bukchon residents, who were formerly upper class, lost their bureaucratic status and became poor, selling antiques that they had kept at home. There were shops that treated these antiques in Insa - dong. It is naturally developed as it became famous as an antique street, but it is also a place having painful history which it was pass for the exploitation of cultural assets.

일제강점기가 되면서 기존 상류층이었던 북촌거주 양반들이 벼슬을 잃게 되고 형편이 어려워 지면서 집에서 보관하던 골동품들을 팔게 되었고 이곳 인사동에 이런 골동품을 취급하던 상점들이 밀집해 있었다. 이로 인해 자연스럽게 골동품의 거리로 유명해 지면서 발전하게 되었으나 문화재 수탈의 창구가 되었던 아픈 역사가 있는 곳이기도 하다. 

 Antique shops have moved to other places, and as the art-related shops have entered, there have been naturally created exhibition halls and formed cultural streets up to now. As Insadong became a gathering place for writers and artists, traditional tea house and traditional restaurants became popular. It became the current shape after the government designated it as ' the street of traditional cultures' in 1988.

 현재 골동품 상점들은 다른 곳으로 이전하였고 그 자리에 미술관련 상점들이 들어서게 되면서 자연스럽게 전시장이 생겨났고 지금까지 이어지면서 문화의 거리를 형성했다. 인사동이 작가, 예술인 등의 모임장소가 되자 전통차, 전통음식점들이 들어서게 되고 1988년 정부에서 '전통문화의 거리'로 지정하면서 현재의 모습을 갖추게 된 것이다.

 In Insa-dong, traditional cultural festivals are held every year from April to May. There are many interesting things to see about Korean traditional culture such as antiques, contemporary arts, craft art exhibitions and Korean traditional music performances.  인사동에서는 해마다 4~5월경 전통문화 축제가 열리고 있는데 고미술, 현대미술, 공예품 전시와 국악공연 등 한국의 전통문화를 이해할 수 있는 다채로운 볼거리가 마련되어 있으니 이 시기에 방문을 계획하고 계시는 분들은 참고하시면 좋겠다.

 As Insadong Street becomes famous, building rents have risen a lot, and shops representing cultural streets, such as mount shop and galleries, are losing out to various cosmetics stores and franchise chains.

 인사동 거리가 유명해 지면서 건물 임대료도 많이 상승하였고 이를 버티지 못하는 표구방이나 갤러리 등 문화의 거리를 대표하는 점포들이 밀려나고 그 자리에 각종 화장품 가게 및 프렌차이즈 체인점등이 들어서고 있는 추세이다.

 The characteristic of Insadong Street is that it can hardly find signboards in foreign languages. Even foreign franchise companies change their signboards into Hangul, so it is fun to find these in this street.

 인사동 거리의 특징은 외국어로 된 간판을 거의 찾아볼 수 없다는 점이다. 외국 프랜차이즈 업체들조차 자신들의 간판을 한글로 바꾸어 달고 영업을 하고 있으니 이런 간판들을 찾아보는 재미도 쏠쏠하다.
