Jiktang Falls(Cheorwon)_직탕폭포(철원)

 There are several scenic places near Goseokjeong, so I visited Jiktang Falls which is one of them.   It is located in Cheorwon, Gangwon province and takes about 1 hour and 50 minutes by car from Seoul and 10 minutes from Goseokjeong.

 고석정 근처에 몇 군데 경치 좋은 곳이 있다고 해서 그 중 하나인 직탕폭포에 들렸다.

직탕폭포는 강원도 철원에 있으며 서울에서 약 1시간 50분 정도 걸린다. 고석정에서는 약 10분거리에 위치한다.

 There are restaurants that operate along the river at the entrance of Jiktang Falls. Parking is difficult because the parking lot is only available for restaurant customers. So roadside parking is needed.

직탕폭포 입구에는 강을 끼고 영업하는 음식점들이 있으며 음식점 손님들만 이용할 수 있는 주차장 밖에 없어 근처 빈 공간에 주차를 해야 하는 어려움이 있다.  

 The Jiktang Falls can be seen in a river that is wider than Goseokjeong. It is a small size that is a bit embarrassing to say a waterfall.

 고석정보다 폭이 넓은 강에 직탕폭포가 보인다. 폭포라고 하기에는 조금 민망할 정도의 아담한 사이즈다.

 The information board explain that It is one of the Cheorwon 8 views and called as "Korea's Niagara Falls". It is laughing because I have experience to visited Niagara Falls. If you are from the United States, you might think the same thing.

 철원 8경의 하나라고 하며 안내판에는 '한국의 나이아가라 폭포'로 불려지고 있다고 하는데.... 나이아가라 폭포를 가 본 필자로서는 웃음이 나온다. 미국에서 오신 분들께서 보신다면 필자와 같은 생각을 할 것 같다.

 The child, nevertheless, was amazed at the spectacle of the falling river.

 아이는 그래도 강물이 떨어지는 모습이 신기한지 마냥 신났다.

 The scenery around the waterfall is not so special because it can be seen anywhere in Korea.

 폭포 주변의 경치도 한국 어디에서나 볼 수 있을 법한 것이라 그리 특별하지는 않다.

 One thing good to see here is the stepping bridge. There are two bridges across the river, and it is one of them. Appearance of this bridge looks like the one which is in old country town in Korea. I do not think you need to come here only to see this waterfall. It is about 2km away from Goseokjeong, so it is better to stop for a while after visiting Goseokjeong.

 하나 볼 만한 것이 있다면 강을 건너는 다리가 2개 있는데 그 중 징검다리가 한국의 옛 시골마을에서 볼 법한 모습을 하고 있어 정감 있어 보인다는 것이다.  굳이 직탕폭포를 보기위해 이곳에 올 필요는 없을 것 같다. 고석정에서 2km정도 떨어져 있기 때문에 고석정 관광 후 잠시 시간을 내 들르는 정도가 좋겠다.

 I visited nearby restaurants and was disappointed because it fell short of my expectation. Nevertheless, I ate delicious because I was too hungry. Cheorwon rice is nationally famous because Cheorwon consist of a wide plains of lava zone so quality of soil is very good. If you visit Cheorwon, I recommend you to try steamed rice made with Cheolwon rice.

 근처에 맛집을 찾아 방문했는데 기대에 한참 못 미쳐 실망을 했다. 그래도 시장이 반찬이라 맛있게 먹었다. 철원은 용암지대로 이루어진 넓은 평야이기 때문에 쌀이 전국적으로 유명하다. 철원에 방문하신다면 철원쌀로 만든 밥을 한 번 드셔보실 것을 추천드린다.
