Time museum at Jeong dongjin(Gangneung)_정동진 시간박물관(강릉)

 Jeong Dong-jin is one of the beaches located in Gangneung-si, East Sea. It became famous because of the famous drama "Sandglass" in the early 1990s. Nowadays, it has become one of the most famous tourist attractions in Gangneung. Time Museum is located in Jungdongjin Hourglass Park and exhibits time related works inside the train.

 정동진은 동해 강릉시에 위치한 해변의 하나로 1990년대 초 유명한 드라마인 '모래시계'에 등장해 유명해진 곳이다. 지금은 세월이 많이 흘러 강릉의 유명관광지 중 한 곳으로 자리잡았다. 시간박물관은 정동진 모래시계공원에 위치하고 있으며 시간과 관련된 작품들을 열차 내부에 전시하고 있다. 

 The Jungdongjin Time Museum takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes by car from Seoul.

 정동진 시간박물관은 서울에서 승용차로 약 3시간 15분 걸린다.

 There are wide free parking lots in front of the hourglass park so parking is convenient. Over the parking lot, you can see a train painted with various colors. It is the Time Museum.

 모래시계 공원 앞에 넓은 무료주차장이 있어 주차가 편하다. 주차장 너머로 여러 가지 색을 알록달록 칠해놓은 기차가 보인다. 바로 시간박물관이다. 

 Admission fee is 7,000 won for adults, 5,000 won for teenager and 4,000 won for children. Initially, I thought it is expensive compared to the size of the museum, but it is reasonable range because it was operated by an individual using entrance fee only without any subsidy. 

 Many exhibits on different subjects are displayed in each room of the time museum, and the first hall was time and science. It was a place where I could see various clocks that were designed historically. There are various kinds of clocks such as sun clocks, water clocks, buring clocks, sand clocks, weight watches, chronometers, crystal clocks, atomic clocks, etc.

입장료는 성인 7,000원, 청소년 5,000원, 어린이 4,000원이다. 박물관의 크기에 비해 비싸다는 생각이 들었으나 개인이 운영하는 곳이라 따로 보조금이 없어 입장료 만으로 운영해야 한다고 생각하니 이해가 되었다. 

 시간박물관은 객실마다 다른 주제로 전시하고 있었으며 첫 번째 전시관은 시간과 과학이었다. 역사적으로 고안된 여러 가지 시계를 볼 수 있는 곳이었다. 우리가 잘 아는 해시계, 물시계부터  연소시계, 모래시계, 분동시계, 크로노미터, 수정시계, 원자시계 등 다양한 종류의 시계가 전시되어 있다.

 The next exhibition hall is clock and art. It is a place where you can see the clocks of various European countries decorated with precious stones and jewelry.

 다음 전시관은 시계와 예술이다. 보석과 귀금속들로 치장된 여러 유럽국가의 시계를 볼 수 있는 공간이다.

 The next room is decorated with a theme of time and a trip down memory lane. It displayed a pocket watch stopping at the moment of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912.

 다음 객실은 시간과 추억여행을 주제로 꾸며놓았는데 1912년 침몰한 타이타닉호를 배경으로 타이타닉호의 침몰순간 멈춘 회중시계 등을 전시하고 있다.

 There is also an interesting picture using the optical illusion phenomenon on the subject of time.

 시간을 주제로 착시현상을 이용한 재미있는 그림도 있다.

 If you walk out of the museum along the aisle you will be able to meet some interesting sculptures.

 박물관을 나와 통로를 따라 걸어가면 재미있는 조형물들 몇 개를 만날 수 있을 것이다.

 I do not recommend visiting time museum because people either like it or hate it. However, the hourglass park near the museum has an atmosphere of beach, so it is good to stop by and see the blue sea of ​​the East Sea.

 시간박물관은 사람에 따라 호불호가 갈릴 수 있기 때문에 방문을 추천 드리지는 않는다. 다만 박물관 근처의 모래시계공원은 해변을 분위기 있게 꾸며놓았기 때문에 들러서 푸른 동해바다를 감상해 보는 것도 좋을 듯 하다.

 Koreans like to eat sashimi while watching the sea on the beach. I also went to the restaurant street near Gyeongpodae beach and ate a plate of sashimi. The quality of the food is lower comparing to the price because it is tourist site, but this atmosphere cannot be enjoyed elsewhere.

 한국 사람들은 해변에서 바다를 보면서 회를 먹는 것을 좋아한다. 필자도 경포대 해수욕장 근처에 가서 회를 한 접시 먹었다. 관광지라 가격에 비해 음식의 질이 좀 떨어지지만 이 분위기는 다른 데서 즐길 수 없는 것 아닌가..

 The night of Gyeongpodae is getting deeper.

 경포대의 밤이 깊어간다.
