Forest of Wisdom(Paju Book City)_지혜의 숲(파주 출판단지)

 After sightseeing of Yulgok historical sites, I looked for a good place nearby and saw the Paju Book city. Although it was not so close to the historical sites in terms of distance and time (about 40 minutes by car), I wanted to visit the center of the Korean publishing industry as well as a glimpse of modern book culture.

 율곡선생 유적지를 본 후 근처의 볼만한 곳을 찾아보니 파주 출판단지가 있어 들러 보았다. 거리와 시간상으로 유적지에서 그리 가까운 곳은 아니었지만(승용차로 약 40분 소요) 우리나라 출판산업의 중심지이자 현대 도서문화를 엿볼 수 있는 공간이라 꼭 한번 가보고 싶었다.

 The Paju Book City is located about 50 minutes by car from Seoul.

 파주 출판단지는 서울에서 승용차로 약 50분정도 걸리는 거리에 위치한다.

 The Forest of Wisdom is located in the Paju Book City and is a multi-cultural space created by the Bookcity Culture Foundation sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2014 with the aim of creating a common library.

 Underground parking lots of Asian Bookcity Culture Foundation building are available because the facility is located in this building. Many people also watch after parking the roads nearby.

지혜의 숲은 파주 출판단지 내에 위치하며 공동의 서재를 만든다는 목적으로 출판도시문화재단이 2014년에 문화체육관광부의 후원을 받아 조성한 복합 문화 공간이다.

아시아 출판도시문화재단 건물에 있어 건물 지하 주차장을 이용할 수 있으며 많은 사람들이 주변의 길가에 주차를 하고 관람을 하기도 한다.

 Once inside the building, books that are full of high-volume bookshelves overwhelm us. My eyes also waved in the sight which was first time for me. Almost all the walls on the high floor are bookshelves and the books are dense in the bookshelf.

 건물 내부로 들어서면 높은 크기의 책장에 가득 차있는 책들이 우리를 압도한다. 처음 보는 모습에 필자도 눈이 휘둥그래졌다. 높은 층고에 거의 모든 벽이 책장이고 책장 안에 책들이 빽빽하다. 

 The forest of wisdom consists of three spaces: 1 is for books that are donated by academics, intellectuals, and research institutes; 2 is a space where books donated by publishers can be read. And books in 3 are donated by distributors, museums and gallery.

 People were sitting everywhere and completely lost in reading. There is also a cafe in the building that sells simple food and beverage.

지혜의 숲은 3개의 공간으로 구성되어 있는데 1은 학자, 지식인, 연구소에서 기증한 도서를 볼 수 있으며 2는 출판사가 기증한 도서를 읽을 수 있는 공간이고, 3은 유통사와 박물관, 미술관에서 기증한 도서를 볼 수 있다고 한다.

 사람들이 곳곳에 편안히 앉아 독서삼매경에 빠져 있다. 건물 내부에는 간단한 식음료를 파는 카페도 있다.

 There are many people, but unlike other amusement parks, it is quiet and the streets are calm. It is remarkable that there are still many people who enjoy the publishing industry and reading books, although it is said that the many things for watching and reading have been moved from book to media because of development of the Internet and media. Even though book cannot beat internet for fast-delivered news, but it's a personal idea that knowledge stored long time in our mind is from books are better.

 사람들은 많지만 다른 유원지들과 달리 조용한 편이고 거리도 차분하다. 인터넷과 모바일이 발달한 요즘 볼거리 읽을거리가 책에서 미디어들로 많이 옮겨갔다고 하지만 아직도 한 편에서는 이와 같이 출판산업과 발행된 책을 즐기는 이들이 있다는 사실이 놀라웠다. 빠르게 전달되는 소식은 인터넷을 따라갈 수 없지만 머리 속에 오래 간직되는 지식은 아직도 책으로부터 얻는 것이 더 낫다는 것이 개인적인 생각이다.

 Inside the building, not only books but also various kinds of sculptures were exhibited, which made me think that I was enjoying cultural life for a long time.

 건물 내부에는 책뿐 아니라 다양한 조형물들도 전시되어 있어 간만에 문화생활을 즐기고 있다는 생각이 들게 해 주었다.

 Publishing-related companies are gathered around the forest of wisdom in the name of a Book City, and all are distinctive buildings, so if you walk out of the forest of wisdom, it is a good place to take a walk.

 지혜의 숲 주변은 모두 출판 관련된 업무를 하는 곳들이 출판단지라는 이름으로 모여있으며 각각 특색 있는 건물들이어서 건물 밖을 나서면 산책을 하기에 좋은 장소를 제공해 준다. 

 It is an exhibition hall called "The Forest of type", which displays various types for prints. I could not go in because the day I visited was closed.

 이곳은 활자의 숲이라는 곳으로 인쇄에 쓰이는 다양한 활자를 전시해 놓은 곳인데 쉬는 날이어서 들어가 보지는 못했다.

 Traditional house among the many modern building communities. It is said to have moved away from Kim Dongsoo's house in Chonbuk Jeongeup. It seemed to play a role as a landmark of book village.

 수 많은 현대적 건물군락들 가운데 전통가옥. 전북 정읍의 김동수 가옥 중에서 별채를 옮겨 세운 것이라 한다. 책마을의 랜드마크로서의 역할을 할 것 같은 생각이 들었다.

 Buildings with incomplete feelings create a unique atmosphere.

 짓다 만 것 같은 느낌의 건물들이 이색적인 분위기를 연출한다.

 The buildings here are seems to be similar, but there is nothing that have same appearance

 이곳 건물들은 비슷한 것 같아도 잘 보면 같은 모습을 하고 있는 것들이 하나도 없다.

 I also stopped at a cafe because I was tired of walking a long time. Because it is located in the Book City, there is also a large number of books inside and decorated to read books with a cup of coffee.

오래 걷느라 지친 다리도 좀 쉴 겸해서 한 카페에 들렀다. 출판단지 내에 있는 곳이라 여기도 내부에 책이 가득했으며 커피 한 잔하며 볼 수 있도록 되어 있다.

 2nd floor space inside the cafe. When you climb the stairs, you can see the following places where people take a cup of tea and chat quietly and read a book. I also ordered a cup of coffee and brought a book and spent a relaxing time with the book in a long time.

 카페 내부의 2층 공간. 계단을 올라가면 아래와 같은 장소가 있는데 사람들이 찻잔을 들고 조용히 담소를 나누기도 하고 책을 읽는 모습도 눈에 띈다. 필자도 커피를 하나 주문하고 책을 가져와 오랜만에 책과 함께 여유로운 시간을 보냈다.

 The Paju Book City is a book village where many things related to reading that are hard to find anywhere in Korea. It was established for the revival of the publishing culture that inevitably faded with the development of Internet culture and I hope that you will build your mind here. Buildings of this place are illuminated to prepare evening time with sunset over there.

 파주 출판단지는 국내 어느 곳에서도 찾아보기 힘든 독서와 관련된 것들이 모여있는 책마을이다. 인터넷 문화의 발달과 더불어 필연적으로 퇴색할 수 밖에 없는 출판문화의 부흥을 위해 설립된 이 곳에서 마음의 양식을 쌓아 갔으면 좋겠다는 바람이다. 뉘엿뉘엿 넘어가는 해와 함께 저녁을 준비하는 듯 출판단지 건물에도 불이 들어온다.
