Sokcho Silhyangmin Munhwa chon(속초 실향민 문화촌)

Sokcho is a city where the suffering of the displaced people is preserved, and many displaced people lived in there actually. Therefore, North Korea style restaurants such as Abai Sundae, Sundae Guk, etc. can be found without difficulty.

 

 Located near the Balhae Historic Museum, the Displaced people Cultural Village shows detailed picture of the settlements of the displaced people who had lived hard life after the Korean war, so that we can get a glimpse of the pain of the war. It reproduces Korea's old train station and traditional houses in the north.

 대조영 편에서 이야기 했듯이 속초는 실향민의 아픔을 간직한 도시이고 실제로 실향민들이 많이 거주한다. 그래서 아바이순대, 순대국 등 이북음식점들도 어렵지 않게 찾아볼 수 있다. 

 발해 역사관 옆에 위치한 실향민 문화촌은 전쟁의 아픔을 엿볼 수 있도록 전후 고단한 삶을 살았던 실향민들의 주거지를 상세하게 묘사하여 전시하고 있으며 한국의 예전 기차역, 이북의 전통가옥 등을 재현하여 많은 볼거리를 제공해 주고 있다.

The Displaced people Cultural Village is located in Sokcho, Gangwon-do, and takes about 2.5 hours by car from Seoul.

속초 실향민 문화촌은 강원도 속초에 있으며 서울에서 승용차로 약 2시간 30분 걸린다.

If you go straight in the following places, you can see Balhae historic museum and you can go to the culture village when you go back.

아래 장소에서 직진하면 발해역사관이고 뒤로 돌아가면 실향민 문화촌을 관람할 수 있다.

The building which reproduced old appearance of Sokcho Station is splendid.

속초역의 옛 모습을 재현해 놓은 건물이 멋스럽다.

 There are tools and space for enjoying Korean traditional games in front of the station, and it gives pleasure to visitors. I also went returned to the innocence of childhood and enjoyed for a while. 

역 앞에는 한국 전통놀이를 즐길수 있는 도구들과 공간이 마련되어 관람객 들에게 즐거움을 선사한다. 필자도 잠시 동심으로 돌아가 즐겨 보았다.

 Walking forward with Sokcho station on the left, you can see the street where the reproduced the settlement of displaced people that they lived in during the Korean War. We can feel hard life of the displaced people at a glance.

속초역을 왼쪽으로 두고 앞으로 걸어가면 실향민들이 한국전쟁 당시 거주했던 주거지를 재현해 놓은 거리를 볼 수 있다. 보기만 해도 실향민들의 힘겨웠던 삶이 고스란히 전달되는 것 같다.

 I believe that the passion for learning that has not been given up in war, poverty, and hard life has been the driving force of remarkable development the Republic of Korea.

전쟁과 가난, 힘겨웠던 삶 속에서도 놓지 않았던 배움에 대한 열정이 현재 눈부시게 발전한 대한민국의 원동력이 아니었나 싶다.

You can see the traditional houses of the North Korea by walking down the street.

실향민 거리를 돌아 내려오면 이북의 전통 가옥들을 관람할 수 있다.

 Housing is more closed because the north is colder than the south. You can get a glimpse of the wisdom to reduce the movement of the house as much as possible and to live a lot of lives from inside.

 

 While traveling in Sokcho, I would like you to feel the characteristic of this place (unique local culture where mountain, fishing village and displaced people culture coexist).

 북쪽은 남쪽에 비해 춥기 때문에 가옥 양식이 좀 더 폐쇄적이다. 집의 동선을 최대한 줄이고 될 수 있으면 내부에서 많은 생활을 하고자 한 지혜를 엿볼 수 있다. 

 속초를 여행하면서 이곳의 특징(산촌문화 어촌문화 그리고 실향민 문화가 공존하는 독특한 향토문화)을 느끼고 가셨으면 좋겠다.
