93. Yu Gwan-sun(Historic site, Cheonan)_유관순 열사 유적지(천안)
GBbrake 2018. 11. 15. 01:15The shout of the 3.1 movement that began at Tapgol Park soon spread throughout the Republic of Korea. It was the wave of nation that at least 500,000 people participated in the anti-imperialist movement by April 30. Some said that the voices of the people of a powerless nation are empty, but I think it had a great significance in that they informed the voices of people aspiring to independence globally. If you are an educated person in Korea, the first person who comes to mind when you hear 3.1 movement would be Yu Gwan-sun. On April 1, just one month after the 3.1 movement in Tapgol Park, 3,000 people held protests shouting for independence of Korea at the Aunae marketplace, Cheonan and the person who led this demonstration was Yu Gwan-sun. In this aggressive movement, both parents of Yu Gwan - Soon are killed by the Japanese MP, and she was arrested as a protagonist in the protests and died in prison. 탑골공원에서 시작된 3.1운동의 함성은 곧 대한민국 전역으로 퍼져 나가게 되고 전국적으로 4월 30일까지 적어도 50만명 이상의 국민이 만세운동에 참여한 민족의 물결이었다. 일부는 힘이 없는 국가의 국민이 외치는 만세는 공허하다고 평가하기도 하였지만 독립을 열망하는 국민의 목소리를 외부에 알렸다는 점에서 큰 의의가 있다고 본다. 우리나라에서 교육을 배운 사람이라면 3.1운동하면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 인물은 유관순일 것이다. 탑골공원에서 3.1운동이 일어난 지 1달만인 4월 1일 천안 아우내 장터에서 3,000여명이 독립만세를 외치며 시위를 벌였고 이의 선두에 서서 만세운동을 했던 분이 유관순 열사이다. 이 만세운동에서 유관순 열사의 부모 두 분 모두 일본 헌병의 총에 살해되고 본인은 만세시위 주동자로 체포되어 옥중에서 사망하게 된다. 유관순 열사에 대한 자세한 내용은 자료실을 참고하시기 바란다.(http://gbbrake.tistory.com/40)
It is located in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do. It takes about 1 hour and 40 minutes by car from Seoul. This place is not far from the Aunae market place where there was an independence movement. Cheonan is a place where many relics are gathered, such as Maengssi Haengdan House, Independence Hall, Tomb of Park Munsu, and Kim Si-min's historic site, so it would be good if you plan to organize a tour course together with other relics including this one.
유관순 열사 유적지는 충남 천안에 있으며 서울에서 승용차로 약 1시간 40분 정도 걸린다. 이곳은 만세운동이 있었던 아우내 장터에서 멀지 않은 곳에 있다. 천안은 맹사성 고택, 독립기념관, 박문수 묘, 김시민 유허지 등 많은 유적이 모여 있는 곳이므로 이곳을 포함해서 다른 유적지를 한데 묶어서 관광코스를 계획하면 좋을 것이다.

There is wide free parking area in front of the historic site.
유적지 앞에는 넓은 무료 주차장이 있다.
If you climb up the road seen in front, you will see the place.
앞으로 보이는 길을 따라 올라가면 유적지가 나온다.
The mountain in front is the Mt. MaeBong and the place where a signal fire was lighted during 3.1 movement. There is still a beacon mound on the top of the mountain.
앞에 보이는 산은 매봉산으로 3.1운동당시 봉화를 올렸던 장소이다. 아직도 산 정상에 봉화대가 있다.
The place is large in size, but there are not many facilities compared to the site, so it feels a bit lonely.
유적지는 규모가 크지만 부지에 비해 시설은 많지 않아 약간 쓸쓸한 분위기가 느껴진다.
On the right side of the site is a bronze statue of Yu Gwan-sun.
She was born in 1902 and died in 1920. She was a courageous person who has acted following her own beliefs without bending her in spite of a young age.
유적지 마당 우측에는 유관순 열사의 동상이 서 있다.
1902년에 태어나 1920년에 돌아가셨다. 어린 나이에 본인의 의지를 굽히지 않고 소신 있는 행동을 하신 용감한 분이다.
On the left is the Yu Gwan Sun Memorial Hall. It is typical of a memorial hall built in the 1960s and 1970s. It is a concrete structure made in the shape of a hanok. Reconstruction, such as building with new design or using wood if it’s shape is Hanok style, will help to change the atmosphere of the site.
좌측에는 유관순 열사 기념관이 있다. 1960~70년대에 건립한 기념관의 전형적인 모습이다. 한옥모양으로 만들어진 콘크리트 구조물로 현대의 기념관들에 비해 디자인이 식상하다. 한옥의 모습을 하고 있으면 나무로 만들거나 아니면 새로운 디자인으로 신축하는 것도 유적지의 분위기를 바꾸는데 도움이 될 것 같다.
When you enter inside the memorial hall, you will see a picture drawing a picture of Yu Gwan-sun. Many people, including myself, remember this as Yu Gan-soon, but this photo was actually taken during the process of torture and cruel treatment in the prison, so the appearance in this photo is sulky face comparing to usual. I feel sorry sad that the only photo left is this.
기념관 내부로 들어가면 유관순의 사진을 그린 그림이 걸려있다. 필자를 포함한 많은 사람들이 이 모습을 유관순으로 기억하고 있는데 사실 이 사진은 열사가 옥중에서 고문, 가혹행위를 받던 중 찍은 사진이라 평소의 얼굴보다 많이 부은 모습이라고 한다. 남겨진 사진이 열사의 옥중 사진 뿐이라니 안쓰럽다.
Inside the memorial hall, there is a place where dolls reproduce the independence movement of Aunae marketplace. It seemed to portray the situation realistically.
기념관 안에는 아우내 장터의 독립만세 운동을 인형들로 재현한 장소가 있는데 실감나게 묘사해 놓은 것 같았다.
유관순 열사가 투옥되었던 서대문 형무소에서 수감자들을 고문할 때 쓰던 '벽관'을 재현해 놓은 것이다. 한 사람이 간신히 들어갈 수 있는 공간에 사람을 가두어 놓는 것인데 실제로 안에 들어가보니 금방 몸이 굳어오는 것 같아 얼른 나왔다. 이곳에 사람을 며칠씩 가두어 놓았다고 하니 정말 무섭다.
When you climb up the staircase after coming out of the memorial hall, you will see a shrine called ‘Chumogak’ which is to honor Yu Gwan-sun. Taegeukgi(Nation flag of Korea) are hanging on both sides of the stairs and it remind us the Taegeukgi which was held in the hands of the crowd at the time of the 3.1 independence movement.
기념관을 나와 위로 나 있는 계단을 따라 올라가면 유관순 열사를 모신 사당인 추모각이 나온다. 3.1운동 당시 군중들의 손에 모두 들려있던 태극기를 연상시키는 듯 올라가는 계단 양 옆으로 태극기들이 걸려있다.
There is Chumogak in the center of the large courtyard.
넓은 마당 중앙에 추모각이 있다.
The portrait of Yu Gwan-sun is hanging inside the shrine, and like the other shrines, there is incense and incense burner for the worship. The shrine of the great men in various regions of Korea has a similar structure, and it is good manners to light the incense with a pious attitude, put it in the censer, and give a bow putting your hands together. Of course, there is no need to do like this.
사당 내부에는 유관순 열사의 영정이 걸려있고 다른 사당과 마찬가지로 앞에는 참배를 위한 향로와 향이 놓여져 있다. 국내 곳곳에 있는 위인들의 사당은 비슷한 구조로 되어 있는데 이 앞에서 경건한 마음으로 향에 불을 붙여 향로에 꽂고 두 손을 모은 뒤 인사를 하는 것이 예절이다. 물론 이렇게 하지 않아도 관계는 없다.
If you look down from the shrine, you can see the Byeongcheon-myeon where you can find Aunae market place. Imagine Yu Gwan-sun, who led the protests and shouted in front of the crowd without fear, with the people aspiring to independence at the time of the 3.1 independence movement.
사당을 등지고 보면 아우내 장터가 있는 병천면이 내려다 보인다. 3.1운동 당시 독립을 열망하던 국민들과 함께 두려움 없이 시위를 주도하며 군중들 앞에서 목청껏 만세를 외치는 열사의 모습을 상상해 본다.
I visited Yoo Gwan-sun's house near the historical site. You can use the free parking space in front of the house.
유적지에서 얼마 안 떨어진 곳에 유관순 열사 생가가 있어서 찾아가 보았다. 생가 앞에 마련되어 있는 무료주차장을 이용하시면 되겠다.
The real house which Yu Gwan - Sun lived was disappeared, and the house seen below was restored in 1991.
유관순 열사가 실제 살았던 생가는 없어졌으며 보이는 집은 1991년에 복원한 것이다.
There is a building that manages the Yu Gwan-sun's house next to the house. The rest of the family members of Yoo Gwan - Sun, who lived without a place to live, received this house from the government in 1977. The younger brother of Yu Gwan Sun lived here, but is empty now.
유관순 열사 생가 옆에는 생가지를 관리하는 건물이 있다. 아우내 만세운동 이후 유관순 열사의 남은 가족들은 거처할 곳이 없이 생활하던 중 1977년 정부에서 본 건물을 건축하여 열사의 가족에게 생가지를 관리하면서 거주하도록 배려해 주었다. 유관순 열사의 남동생이 거주하였으나 현재는 비어 있다.
It is not a excellent tile-roofed house, but it is said that the family owned a house of this size had more than middle class economy. It consisted of an 'ㄱ' shaped main house and a small attached house.
번듯한 기와집은 아니지만 이 정도 규모의 집이면 당시 중산층 이상의 경제력을 보유한 집안이라고 한다. 'ㄱ'자 모양의 안채와 작은 부속채로 이루어졌다.
Yu Gwan-sun's life is short, and there are not many relics remaining, so it is not a place with many attractions. If you are interested in the 3.1 independence movement during Japanese colonial era and and have a plan to visit Cheonan, it is recommended to take a moment to stop by here.
유관순 열사의 생애가 짧기도 하고 남아있는 유물이 많지도 않아 볼거리가 많은 유적지는 아니다. 일제강점기 3.1운동에 관심이 있고 천안 관광을 하시는 분들이 잠깐 시간을 내어 들러보시면 좋겠다.
